Hello mates,
When I started watching MTV Brazil, back in 1995, most of its programming was devoted to actual music. And when I say "music", I mean "bands/singers who weren't created by a pack of media tycoons in a cozy office in a tall building in some huge and affluent neigbourhood of a metropolis".
Okay, let's get back to the topic.
For some reason, the quality of the music there started deteriorating to a point that the non-music related shows like "The Real World", "Rockgol" and "Hermes & Renato" started to look more interesting than the music itself. Then, I gradually stopped watching MTV regularly by the end of last millennium and would only tune it when there wasn't anything else to do in this small world.
So, in a dark and stormy night, approximately at 3:40 AM, I was zapping through the channels until I found Phil Collins signing "Dance Into The Light". So when the song ended, was ready to switch channels again, but I decided to wait for the next song. David Bowie's "Underground". I thought to myself: "Okay, four more minutes and I'm going to watch some preacher freeing a poor person from an evil spirit."
But I had to change my mind when I heard a VERY familiar synthesizer sound. Gary Numan, in persona, singing "Cars", followed by a plethora of bands who got lost in the 80's: Oingo Boingo, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Police, The Smiths, Joy Division, Twisted Sister, Europe (do they have any other song that isn't "The Final Countdown"?) and Soft Cell, among others (not necessarily in that order).
It was almost 6 o' clock when the first chords of Black Flag's "TV Party" (where I took this post title from) struck my ears and I was trying to keep myself awake at any costs...but I failed, and when I reopened my eyes, I saw a black Michael Jackson dancing with some zombies. I almost had a stroke...I couldn't believe that MTV would display a 14-minute video in the 21st Century!!
But even that couldn't keep me awake for long...so I feel asleep again, and when I woke up, at 10:30... Simple Plan!!! Crap!!! Someone turn me into a vampire now!!!

Well, that makes me think that everything's possible! :P
(I guess you were dreaming and all these things didnt happen in real...)
Kisses :)
i think we are alike coz we grew up together. i mean, we spent a good part of our "youth" talking and sharing ideas. :)
as for the bands, i'm tired of seeing black eyed peas' clip! i'm tired of jota quest and charlie brown jr!
i wish i could become a vampire too...
well, if that's not possible, the only choice is to change channels or turn off the tv.
kisses
